IT Professionals Are Not Superheroes

Before reading the text below, I want to remind you that every profession mentioned is worthy and important. I’m not saying that IT (Information Technology) is superior or inferior to other fields; I only want to show that it is different.

Jobs in computing, or information technology, are very new compared with medicine and engineering. Because of that, and because the field is complex, it’s still not universally clear what people who work in IT do or how to interact with an IT team in a way that solves your problem without getting in the way of theirs.

I want to make it very clear that Richard’s video is infinitely better than this humble post.

I simply watched the video a few times, focused on the image below (the last image in the video), and started writing what came to mind about these keywords. This isn’t a translation of the video; it’s my way of interpreting the keywords that lead to success.

Macelo says: What’s the book about?

Valério says: Whatever programming language you use, Get Real. It’s about how to build real software projects.

Macelo says: Haha. I see. I’ve been through an experience. Is it about UML? Or some other kind of modeling?

Book Review: Reinventing Yourself

I attended a talk by Carlos Alberto Júlio at the Convention Center in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, on the same subject as his book. In the book, he explores in greater depth how we can adapt and maintain our employability and satisfaction in today’s world. His advice is nicely seasoned with his life story: he went through a time of reflection and anxiety because of an illness that could have been serious, but fortunately wasn’t, and that allowed him to reinvent himself and share his experience with us.
