Entrepreneurship: You Need to Take 100% Responsibility

If you continue with the bad habit of thinking that the government is to blame for your problems, start reconsidering that thought—or I warn you: do not enter the field of entrepreneurship, because complaining and blaming others is one of the greatest self-saboteurs a human being can have.

If the person wants to open their own business, it will be a business that is born with a compromised foundation. In other words, in any crisis it is doomed to fail.

Entrepreneurship: Persistence versus Stubbornness

Stubbornness

I have a simple tip for the stubborn person. Try three times; if it does not work, change the strategy or the objective. If it feels like punching the sharp end of a knife, give up immediately and think of another cause to defend or another objective.

Persistence

The effort necessary for good planning to turn your objective into reality. Without effort and persistence, we get nowhere. Sometimes we get it right the first time; other times we do not. What separates successful people from those who washed ashore is persistence.

Entrepreneurship: Never Confuse Reputation with Status

It is very important to demystify these two terms, because, as you will see below, status is an entrepreneur’s self-saboteur.

Status

Status is like a crystal goblet, with indescribable beauty and seductive curves, but when you least expect it, it falls from the table, breaks, cuts your foot, and cuts the foot of the person beside you.

Enough of fantasy, imitation, and plasticized life. None of this improves our lives or those of our community in the slightest.

Entrepreneurship: The Rat Race Is a Completely Different Concept from Surplus Value

One day, I was giving a colleague some financial advice and, when I mentioned the concept of the Rat Race, my colleague said it was similar to the concept of Surplus Value. In this text I will demystify and prove that the two have nothing to do with each other. Here are the definitions.

Surplus Value

This is a concept created by the German Karl Marx in the industrial era that criticizes capitalism. From Marx’s perspective, there were those who owned productive capital, with which they expropriated surplus value, thus constituting the exploiting class (the bourgeoisie); on the other side were wage earners who did not own property (the proletariat). In current terms, there is the employer and the employee. The companies and the employees. The entrepreneur and the collaborators.

Good or bad? The customer decides!

The following happened when I tried to buy three large bottles of mineral water:

I visited the first store but couldn’t complete the purchase, because deliveries were only made from 8 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. In other words, I would have to miss work to receive the bottles, or wait until the weekend (another four days without water).

Because the first seller’s schedule didn’t work for me, I went looking for another seller.

Do We Lose Customers for Stupid Reasons?

I recently read an interview in Istoé magazine with Jan Garavaglia, a 53-year-old American doctor who has just published the book How Not to Die! The book grew out of her 20 years working as a medical examiner. She found that people often die for foolish reasons, including:

by: www.flickr.com/photos/kamshots/

Accidents caused by talking on a cell phone while driving.

High blood pressure, which is easily treatable, provided we get checkups to detect it.

Rugs in elderly people’s homes, where a slip can be fatal, among other things you can read about in the article.

Now let’s return to the topic of this post: just as with fatal accidents, do we lose customers for reasons that could easily be avoided?

What Can I Say About Entrepreneurship?

I’d like to share my personal opinion about entrepreneurship and also take part in the promotion run by Fernando from the Primeiro Milhão Blog, who received a complimentary copy from publisher Ediouro. I’m entering to win the book The Toyota Report.

Well, leaving the announcements aside, let’s get to the point. I think of entrepreneurship as an attitude that a group of people have managed to refine (through trial and error, courses, observation, experimentation, and intuition): identifying and meeting the needs, desires, and dreams of a particular target audience in exchange for financial gain.

Would You Reconsider a Decision?

The blog’s original purpose is, of course, to talk a little about technology and innovation, especially things we can find on the web. But whenever something unusual happens to me, I like to write about it and share it with you.

This happened when I went to buy a takeaway lunch. Where I live, there are at least four nearby restaurants or steakhouses that sell boxed lunches. But one of them is unbeatable: a rotisserie chicken shop. It is a simpler place, but its food is the best in terms of quality.

Has Anyone Ever Had Bad Service at a Restaurant?

This is the third episode in the “It’s a trap!” series, and I ask readers’ permission to occasionally stray from the web to tell you about everyday situations.

I often go to a restaurant here in Mossoró that, considering the value for money, is very affordable given the flavor and variety of food available at its all-you-can-eat buffet, which is not charged by weight. The price is fixed at R$6.00. Another highlight is the juice; I have tried cajá and grape. They are definitely not watered-down drinks, but very well-made juices. And there is dessert, which I have not tried because I am not much of a sweets person, though I might make an exception one day.

In this second episode of the “It’s a trap!” series, I’ll tell you about something that happened at an internet café.

I needed to scan a deposit slip, and as soon as I finished lunch I was already thinking through my options. Where would I find a shop open during lunchtime? I wondered. I eventually found one a few meters from where I had eaten. Great, I thought—I had solved my problem.
