When you’re learning to speak English, motivation is very important. You need emotional drive to learn and improve quickly.

One of the easiest ways to get more strength and motivation is to choose BIG goals. Most students have vague, powerless goals. They say things like, “I want to improve my English,” “I want a good TOEFL score,” or “I want a better job.”
These goals are emotionally weak and won’t give you the energy you need for rapid success.
Goals should excite you. You should feel giddy and energized just thinking about your goal.
I’ve written about this topic before, and even so, sometimes I’ve caught myself setting weak goals.
For example, I’ll be giving demonstrations and presentations in Thailand soon. My goal was “Teach people about the Effortless English system” and “Connect with more people.”
Those goals are certainly positive, but they aren’t powerful. They don’t excite me. They don’t set my passion ablaze.
So I thought deeply. I asked myself, “Why do I want to teach people about the Effortless English system? Why do I want to connect with more people? What contribution do I want to make? What do I want to accomplish?”
Better goals immediately came to mind … answers such as:
“I want to inspire people and transform their lives!”
“I want to awaken people’s passion and love for learning. I want to set their imaginations on fire!”
“I want to completely change the way people learn English. I want to help people achieve their dreams by using English as a tool!”
“I want to build an international family of wildly enthusiastic students!”
“I want to give people incredibly positive, powerful emotional experiences! I want to give them joy, laughter, passion, and unshakable confidence in themselves.”
“I want to free people from doubt, insecurity, boredom, and hesitation. I want to set them free to achieve their dreams!”
Now these goals are exciting! They immediately give me energy. They make me want to leap out of bed and start working right away! They make me want to do a fantastic job as a teacher. They inspire me to learn and grow more and more as a teacher.
They make me want to create an amazing demonstration, not just a boring lecture.
Now I’m inspired!
Now I’m energized!
Now I have a mission!
