The blog’s original purpose is, of course, to talk a little about technology and innovation, especially things we can find on the web. But whenever something unusual happens to me, I like to write about it and share it with you.
This happened when I went to buy a takeaway lunch. Where I live, there are at least four nearby restaurants or steakhouses that sell boxed lunches. But one of them is unbeatable: a rotisserie chicken shop. It is a simpler place, but its food is the best in terms of quality.
The problem was that when I arrived, the owner said they had run out of food. I turned around, frustrated, already thinking it would be a long time before I went back. Just then, a young man came to tell me that the owner was calling me. He said they had run out of pasta and asked if they could replace it with rice cooked in milk. I liked the idea because I knew it was well prepared. In the end, I accepted and thoroughly enjoyed my lunch.
Now let’s compare:
This was an isolated case, and I already had a relationship of trust with the rotisserie because of the quality and flavor of its meals. That is why, when they invited me back, I thought it over and decided it was worth it.
But these days, many people can make quality products. The only real differentiator is good customer service.
In my case, instead of telling me that they had run out of boxed lunches, the employees could have told me right away that one of the items was unavailable and asked if I would accept a substitute—which is exactly what happened later. They made that mistake, which was not fatal in my case, but these days little details like this make all the difference, since customers can get an equally good product elsewhere. Online, they can find a special offer just one click away.
Best wishes to everyone. Here is a final thought for business owners:
Let’s pay attention to the details, because details are what make customers identify with a business and recommend it to their friends. Customers are not just looking for something to satisfy their hunger. They are looking for quality food served in a way that no other place could improve upon. Bad service can even make the food taste more bitter!
